On the Oculo dashboard, enter the patient’s name or Medicare number in the 'Find a patient' search box.
Press ‘Enter’ to view the patient’s personal details, medical history and referral history.
Click 'New referral'.
Specify timeframe. In the 'Urgency' drop down box, select the timeframe in which you think the patient needs to be seen, e.g. ‘Within 1 week’ or ‘within 6 months’.
In the field 'From', include your name and the practice from which you are sending the referral. (To change this, you can select a different practice in the drop-down menu.)
In the 'To' field, search by typing in the first few letters of an ophthalmologist’s name and selecting it from the drop-down list. (You can click the link underneath the box to search from the full list.)
When selecting the Ophthalmologist from the full list, you can use the search box at the top of the list to shorten the list, including to search by practice or by subspecialty. To choose a provider, just select his or her name. (As ophthalmologists may work at several practices, ensure that you have selected the correct practice.
If the ophthalmologist you are looking for does not appear in the list, click on 'Create a new provider' to enter in their details. This will be saved in your contact list after the referral has been sent.
Enter your message to the provider in the space provided.
Select the relevant ‘Reason for referral’, and additional fields will appear with prompts for relevant clinical information (history and examination findings).
To add an attachment, click 'Choose files'. Search and select the file from your computer, flash drive or network. Once a file has uploaded, a thumbnail image of the file should appear. (Multiple attachments can be uploaded.)
To delete an attachment, click on 'Remove'.
After you have finished, click 'Send' or ‘Save draft’ to continue editing the referral at a later time.
After you have sent the referral, you will be taken to the confirmation page.
To return to your patient’s referral history, click 'OK'.
